first of all thank you very much for the fast answer.

Just to be sure I did not make any mistake, I reconstructed the folder
structure assumed in the snippet. Here it is.

$ ls *
mini2.jpg  mini.jpg

mini2.jpg  mini.jpg

mini2.jpg  mini.jpg

For completeness mini.jpg and mini2.jpg are two copies of this picture here:

The command I use is almost identical to the one in the snippet. The only
difference is that avconv is in the path, so I don't use "./"

$ cat dir_a/*.jpg dir_b/*.jpg dir_c/*.jpg | avconv -f image2pipe -c:v mjpeg -i
- -r 25 -map 0 -map 1 out.mov
avconv version 9.18-6:9.18-0ubuntu0.14.04.1, Copyright (c) 2000-2014 the Libav
