That would require avconv to start interpreting the meaning of stream
specifiers, which is not very nice. Also, the second issue (a stream being
present in multiple programs) cannot be solved like this easily, can it?

I think the cleanest way to implement this would be to refactor the specifier
parsing so that it takes a specifier+AVFormatContext and returns a list of all
matching streams with some order it selects itself based on the specifier.
