Hi

I am using avconv from debian wheezy-backports (avconv version
0.8.3-6:0.8.3-1~bpo60+1) to convert FLAC files into the Apple Lossless Format
(.m4a container). the FLAC files are generated from WAVE files with the
standard FLAC encoder and filled with metadata and cover art by using metaflac.
all the metadata and cover art is displayed on all tested players (windows,
linux, mac. and via upnp-servers e.g. twonky & minim) and playable without
problems. (16 bit 44.1 KHz, stereo).

to convert to Apples Lossless i use the following command line:
avconv -i test.flac -acodec alac test.m4a
avconv version 0.8.3-6:0.8.3-1~bpo60+1, Copyright (c) 2000-2012 the Libav

they files are created but they are not usable on all programs/players. it
seems like the container format is somehow wrong. the following
results/symptoms are present:
- VLC
  - tags are right
  - cover art is right
  - music is playable
=> everything fine. i suppose because both, avconv and vlc, are using the
same libraries/codecs ?

- iTunes (windows)
  - tags are right
  - cover art IS NOT PRESENT
  - music is playable

- upnp servers (minim, twonky) and display on a upnp control point:
  - tags are right
  - cover art IS NOT PRESENT

- music played via a upnp server and media renderer:
  - music NOT playable

if i convert the same file by using dBpoweramp Music Converter everything works
like expected and is visible and playable.

i suppose there is a bug with the container format created by avconv. i don't
know the details of the used container format to make a more detailed report
:-(

greets
 KoS

ps.: i can give some example files on request (e.g. to compare the versions
between avconv and dBpoweramp).
