This is more of a theoretical problem than a practical, because besides tag:
elements there is no known codec/format that contains | or =. And even in tag:
elements it does not really happen. ffprobe has configurable delimiters though.
We didn't implement them here, because it would require a change in command
line options for avprobe.

This is an established workflow with ffprobe - so it at least works for us ;)

I'm aware of that, thank you for pointing it out though.
I was hoping someone else might do it - because posting to the mailinglist
requires subscription and I really don't want to subscribe with my work email
address. I might create a gmail account or something...
